  • Each artist has their own recommendations when it comes to aftercare.

At Piggy Bank Tattoos we have two methods, depending on which bandage is used.

    For absorbent bandages:

    • Leave the wrap on overnight.

    • Take it off first thing in the morning and wash your tattoo with warm running water and unscented soap.

    • Pat dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.

    • Wear something that covers the tattoo, but do not wrap it again as you want it to start drying out.

    • Wash your tattoo with unscented soap twice a day (ideally morning and night) for the first 3-4 days.

    • On day 3 or 4, when your tattoo starts to get tight and starts flaking, begin applying a thin, water-based, unscented body lotion to the area.

    • Use a very small amount of lotion at a time, and do not over apply. You can apply it a few times a day as needed to offset itching.

    • Do not expose your tattoo to the sun, or soak it in water while it’s healing. (No tanning, swimming, baths etc.) This usually is best for 2 to 3 weeks.

    • Do not apply sunscreen to your tattoo until it’s fully healed (about 4 weeks).

    • Once your tattoo is healed regularly apply sun protection of 30 spf or higher, to your tattoo to preserve the ink.

For Adhesive Bandages (such as Second Skin):

    • Keep the second skin on for at least 5-7 days.

    • Note: If you have any sort of reaction to the adhesive (red bumps around the edges, irritation, burning feeling etc.) remove the second skin immediately, wash the area with unscented soap, and contact your artist for further instructions.

    • When removing the second skin, go slowly and start by pulling the ends up and away from the skin, trying to keep tension on the area. Pull all corners and the edges up and slowly pull it up from the center last.

    • Removing second skin in the shower, under running water ,will help the adhesive unstick.

    • Once the bandage is removed, wash the area with unscented soap, and apply a thin layer of lotion.

    • Apply lotion to your tattoo a couple of times a day and follow the aftercare procedures for absorbent bandages (above) regarding lotion, tanning, swimming, sunscreen etc.

    • If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact your artist, or stop by the studio.

  • Prices for tattoos vary and are determined by size, style, level of detail, location on the body, etc.

For an estimate contact our studio with details of what you want tattooed.

Be sure to include approx. size, location, style, whether colour or black and grey, your budget etc. as well as any references you might have.
